OFFICE EXPERIENCE OPERATIONS GEOLOGIST: 2000 to Present
Operations Geology Lead, Land Group for Tullow Oil plc to assist the BU Ops Geo, well eng and subsurface teams in producing optimum well designs & programs, and the safe and efficient implementation of these.(September 2012 to present): This role is in addition to the Head of Operations Geology, Uganda function with the purpose of supporting Tullow’s land based well activities globally, developing best practices, technical solutions and contracting strategies to support Group activities, to establish well design concepts and basis of design for wells projects working closely with Business Unit Operations Geology, Well Engineering, facilities and subsurface teams,
Head of Operations Geology, Uganda for Tullow Oil plc (January 2011 tp present): Based in the Tullow Chiswick office. This role involves leading a team of Operations Geologists working on 2 continents, providing guidance and support ensuring that goals and deadlines are met in an efficient and timely manner. In this role one of my primary tasks was to build a QA / QC system in order to raise the quality of the operation. This step change was necessary due to the expanding nature of the operation and the moving of the supervision base from Cape Town to London. Based on previous experience I have been able to create a more efficient system and guide a team of Operations Geologists in London and Kampala who have become more productive, in turn my client has been provided with a logical system that is more cost effective providing the required data acquisition and management system.
Senior Operations Geologist for Petro-Canada Norge AS on the HpHt Beta Statfjord well from April 2010 to December 2010. Providing Operations Geology input to the design and drilling of this high cost, high tech HpHt well which was a great success technically and commercially leading to Petro-Canada being awarded the title of Norwegian Explorer of the year for 2010.
Operations Geology Team Leader / Senior Operations Geologist for Talisman Energy Norge AS from January of 2006 to April 2010. Providing guidance and leadership for a team of upto 5 Operations Geologists and as many as 20 Wellsite Geologists during any given month. This role was one of coordination and supervision delivering a flawless service to the client in the high-tech Norwegian CS environment, utilising all combinations of FE tools and numerous G&G related services in order to achieve the goals Talisman set.
Operations Geologist for Talisman Energy Norge AS from October 2003 to January 2006, drilling on the Gyda development project, the Varg development project, the Yme development project and numerous exploration projects.
The role includes: participating in service company tender reviews, preparing Data Acquisition Procedures for service suppliers and the Well-site geology team, preparing pore pressure and temperature estimates for each well, well planning as part of the Sub-Surface / Exploration teams, formulation and overseeing the execution of geo-steering strategies, developing and co-ordinating a well-site team competent to fulfil the Data Acquisition Procedures, develop an extended team of suppliers utilising their skills and knowledge in both well planning and drilling, monitoring and evaluating wells while drilling and overseeing post well studies, supplying the drilling team, senior management, partners and authorities with up-to-date information, co-ordinate all post well analysis and reporting, undertake post well QC of data and reports, distribute reports to partners and the authorities within an agreed timeframe, providing supervision of all geological operations, all geological communication with the rig, making operational decisions, maintaining perpetual communication with the drilling department, liaising with partners and Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, and reporting to management. Another role is to oversee the site survey work, sea-floor coring and CPT studies.
Operations Geologist for Talisman Energy (UK) Ltd in their Aberdeen office for intermittent periods from 2000 to 2005 on exploration, appraisal and development projects. This work involved usual operations duties including, making operational decisions, preparing Well Operations Notices, and liaising with the rigs, drilling department, the DTI and partners.
WELLSITE EXPERIENCE
WELLSITE GEOLOGIST: 1994 to 2003
Wellsite Geology experience includes the North Sea, Caspian Sea, Canada, Middle East, Far East and West Africa. These projects range from remote single-string exploration wells to extensive field development programmes. Well type experience includes the following: Vertical, Deviated, High Temperature / High Pressure (HT/HP), Horizontal, Extended Reach and Multi-laterals.
Duties included co-ordinating and overseeing all geology related personnel at the well site, i.e.; mudloggers, LWD / MWD crews, Wireline crews, Coring personnel, Directional Drillers, Palaeontologists and Heavy Mineral Geologists. Also providing full geological supervision and interpretation, furnishing the client companies with operational recommendations including coring, casing and TD picks. Primary duties included creating lithology and composite logs as well as daily and end of well reports. As a wellsite geologist liaison with the drilling supervisor offshore and the client onshore is always a primary objective.
Geological experience includes North Sea / Onshore UK; Carboniferous, Permo-Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary and Recent stratigraphy. Caspian Sea; Pliocene stratigraphy, offshore Azerbaijan. Middle East; Tertiary stratigraphy - southern Pakistan. North America; Devonian stratigraphy, Alberta, Canada. West Africa; Cretaceous stratigraphy, offshore Angola.
Wireline operations and QC includes all logging tools, conveyed by both conventional wireline and drill pipe (TLC, Tough Logging Conditions). Having worked and being familiar with Schlumberger, Atlas, Halliburton, BPB, Reeves, and various national wireline companies using third party equipment.
Coring experience with; Conventional Coring, Fibreglass Coring and Aluminium Coring methods. Over 4,000 ft of core caught / logged in Clastics and Carbonates in the North Sea, Caspian Sea, West Africa and onshore Europe.
Geo-steering experience includes; extensive Central North Sea work using LWD, palaeontology and Heavy Minerals, offshore West Africa and Bio-steering offshore Denmark.
MUDLOGGING GEOLOGIST: 1990 to 1994
Mudlogging experience was predoninantly in the UK North Sea with Exploration Logging, Data Engineering work undertaken was predominantly in North Africa and Continental Europe.
